WHO WE ARE
With increasing human pressure on the Kaikōura marine environment, the community recognised a need for members representing different sectors to work together to protect our coastline. Representative members were selected as users of our sea, for their knowledge of our coast, and as members of key organisations.
We advocate local leadership about the use and protection of Kaikōura’s marine environment. We bring the community together, in consultation with relevant government departments, Ministries and Ngāi Tahu - to develop management strategies for our coast. All policy decisions are made by the Kaikōura community, with assistance from independent facilitators and advisory bodies.
Our vision
Mā te whakapūmau i te mauri me te wairua o ‘Te Tai o Marokura’, ko mātou ngā kaitiaki o ngā taonga a Tangaroa kei te arataki i te iwi hapori, ki te whakangaruru i te

By perpetuating the mauri and wairua of ‘Te Tai ō Marokura’, we as kaitiaki of Tangaroa’s tāonga, are leading the community to achieve a flourishing, rich and healthy marine environment, where opportunities abound to sustain the needs of present and future generations.
Our OBJECTIVES
Our organisation fosters a cooperative and integrated approach to achieving its objectives, focusing on marine management strategies that incorporate Kaikōura’s coastal values and provide an ongoing kaitiakitanga (stewardship) for community stakeholders.
